Remember, remember, the fifth of November. Yep, it's Guy Fawkes night! :D Fireworks galore.
Jack and I went to our local park where the local council put on a free fireworks display and a mini fun fair. All through the leading two weeks people have been letting their own fireworks off in the neighbourhood. Pretty sparkles everywhere.
Since the last entry, we've seen two gigs... Thurs 29th was gig #1 - MC Lars, Zebrahead and Bowling for Soup. It was a good, fun, bouncy show with a great vibe from the bands and the audience. Especially Bowling For Soup's last two songs - "Horray for Beer" and "1985" that got the entire place jumping for the whole way through. Jack carried me on his shoulders to give me a good view of the moving mass.
Saturday 31st was gig #2: Shpongle (co-incidentally at the same venue as gig #1). I had no idea who they were but tagged along. They play kind of ambient / climatic / trancey type music. Jack and I got near the front so I could actually see without having to sit on his shoulders, although I again found my nose arm-pit level with many a smelly guy.
Pre-gig, to avoid waiting in a long line in the cold evening, we ducked into a nearby pub. There we found one of Nina's friends and a supply of free glow sticks! Being Halloween, many people were out and about in Camden Town dressed in crazy all effort costumes. And there were people still in a long line waiting to get into the costume shop. (we actually saw people waiting in line at the costume shop when we saw MC Lars too).
Adorned with glow sticks and accompanied by zombies and an alien goth, we entered the Shpongle gig. Jack and I diverted from the group to enter the sea of Halloween dressed people and get near the front while the others chose to dance at the back conveniently located near the bar.
After the gig, Jack and I started to head out with the sea of zombies and witches when he gets a text from the late arriving Nina saying she's inside near the sound guy. Fighting our way back against the streams of fairy wings and fake blood I felt like salmon fighting to get upstream. We found Nina, near the sound guy, and proceeded to move on from the gig to a Halloween party where alien goth (Belle) was Dj-ing, which by then she had transformed into saucy sheriff.
After some dancing, and Jack trying to politely turning down a gang of drunken New York girls, we made our way out of the party and down a cold street for a long wait for a bus. Eventually a bus came and we made it home to a nice, warm shower - once again sometime close to dawn.
London is the town delivering us gigs! We are planning to see another gig soon, Johnathan Coulton. So many artists we like playing here, I'm going gaga over it! Yey for live music, and being around while we are here. :)
On Monday, I met up with Joan to do a dance class. Street Flava was the style, kind of like Hip Hop. I wasn't as uncoordinated I thought I would be after 3 years of no Hip Hop, but I did lose my hip hop "groove" a bit - that funky feeling you put in it that makes it look cool. Either way, with or without the funky, I enjoyed the class. After class we enjoyed a nice Chinese meal and reminisced about our more coordinated days.
Jack also met up with a friend from way back in the Bairnsdale days, Damian, who moved to the UK during their Year 12. We ended up having a delightful dinner with Damian and his girlfriend Faye near the ever chaotic Piccadilly circus... even more so on a Saturday evening. It was lots of fun hanging out with them and seeing Jack and Damian catch up as if they had been hanging out throughout the past 12 years.
In between our outings, Jack and I have been working quite hard, trying to wind up our projects and get them to a stage where we can have a break for a few weeks and do some more touristy things. We've booked tickets to Spain and will book our hire car soon. Currently we are researching apartment in Buenos Aires and are planning to book one for December to January. It's getting exciting now - Jack and I have soooo been looking forward to warmer weather. Bring on summer!!! :D
